What is a free church?

The word free church basically means a church that is not connected to the state. It therefore only makes sense to talk about free churches in countries where there is a state-supported church.

In Denmark, the Constitution stipulates that the national church is supported by the state. The national church has some so-called confessions that establish the church's faith - while the framework for a wide range of practical matters is regulated by the Folketing.

In the free churches, on the other hand, it is the churches themselves who decide - and pay - for almost everything.

"From him the whole body, joined and held together by the support that each individual joint supplies, makes the body grow and build itself up in love."
